Amnesty International has called on the Iranian government to halt the harassment of families mourning loved ones who died during the nationwide protests sparked in 2022. The harassment they’ve endured includes arbitrary arrests, restrictions on gatherings at burial sites, and even the destruction of the victims’ tombstones.
Syria’s Turkish-occupied Afrin is suffering a water shortage following the recent theft of essential equipment from the Tarnada water station. Afrin has struggled with instability since the Turkish invasion in 2018.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is due to hold high-level meeting in Baghdad and Erbil on the 22-24 of August. The main focus of Fidan’s visit to Iraq is expected to be Turkey’s ongoing military offensive against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or PKK in the Kurdistan Region.
Turkish President Erdoğan recently reiterated his support for Sweden’s NATO membership given the condition that Sweden follows through on its commitments such as cracking down on incidents like the recent ‘Quran burnings’ in Stockholm.
