The armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party has conducted an attack in Ankara, described as a warning against the Turkish government’s “isolation policy, chemical weapons and fascist attacks”.
Turkey’s pro-Kurdish opposition Green Left Party subsequently issued an urgent call for change, denouncing what it describes as an authoritarian system that perpetuates conflict, oppression and exclusion in the country.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has dismissed decisions of the European Court of Human Rights as being politically motivated, particularly those concerning Turkey, during an opening ceremony for Turkey’s Parliament.
The arrests of 20 people following the attack including prominent members of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, have been shrouded in secrey due to a non-disclosure order.
