The anniversary of the death of young Kurdish Iranian protest icon Jîna Mahsa Amini, was marked by the implementation of intensive security measures across Iran. Amini died in custody after alleged beatings by Iran’s notorious ‘morality police’. Her death resulted in global womens’ rights protests and widespread anti-government uprisings in Iran.
Over the weekend Iranian communities in several European cities organised rallies marking the anniversary of Amini’s death and the emergence of in the Jin Jiyan Azadî movement.
Turkey has increased its drone activity in northern Syria and northern Iraq, targeting both Kurdish-led forces as well as civilians. In recent days, eight have been killed and many more wounded.
And tension in Iraqi Kurdistan’s Sidekan region has escalated, as conflict becomes increasingly likely between peshmerga forces affiliated with the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Kurdistan Worker’s Party.
