📍 Judges in Turkey’s high profile Kobane case have reached a verdict against 108 Kurdish politicians, after an eight year trail. Selahattin Demirtaş was sentenced to 42 years behind bars, while his former HDP co-chair, Figen Yüksekdağ, was received over 30 years. Scores of other defendants have been handed prison sentences.
📍 A wave of arrests on Thursday morning of Kurdish activists in Turkey is the first of this scale since the ruling AKP-MHP alliance suffered considerable losses in the country’s March local elections.
📍 The Turkish parliament has dismissed a bill proposing Kurdish as a language of education, citing conflicts with the provision in Turkey’s constitution of Turkish as the state language.
