📍 Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Iraq included the signing of 15 agreements to strengthen security and political ties. He also visited Erbil (Hewler) and Sulaymaniyah, emphasising security cooperation against what Iran calls ‘subversive’ groups, particularly Iranian Kurdish political parties.
📍 The Violations Documentation Centre has reported a sharp increase in abductions in Afrin, northern Syria, with 19 abductions in the first days of September alone. Following the Turkish takeover in 2018, Afrin has faced increased violence and abuses, leading to grave concerns about its future under Turkish administration.
📍 The Democratic Institutions Platform has announced a mass rally in Diyarbakır (Amed) on 13 October. The rally aims to unite the Kurdish community and its supporters in demanding an end to Öcalan’s isolation and calling for a political solution to the Kurdish question.
📍 The proposed expansion of the Hydroelectric Power Plant or HEPP on the Tağar Stream in Dersim threatens the fragile ecosystem, wildlife and cultural heritage of the region. The plan has sparked strong opposition over concerns about environmental damage and impact on historic sites.
