Turkish foreign minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said Turkey and Syria should fight against what he called “terrorist groups” that are in control of northeast Syria, in an interview on Monday with pro-government A Haber.
On Monday, the Çavuşoğlu also claimed that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has taken control of the region of Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
As concerns about polling security rise ahead of 14 May elections in Turkey, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and the Green Left Party mobilised to ensure the presence of one observer for every ballot box and one lawyer in every school used as a voting centre.
Over 100 members of the pro-Kurdish HDP are once again in court in Turkey at the 24th hearing of the Kobane Trial, where the prosecutor is expected to sum up the case.
