As the first day of the Vilnius NATO summit drew to a close on Monday, Secretary General Jens Stoltenburg said Turkey and Sweden had found a “middle ground” in the implementation of President Erdoğan’s demands for a clamp down on Kurdish groups.

The trial of 18 Kurdish journalists began on Tuesday in Turkey’s Kurdish-majority Diyarbakır. Calls for the judge’s recusal were dismissed after it was uncovered that the prosecutor who drafted the indictment is married to a member of the court.
In the initial hearing of Turkey’s trial of 18 Kurdish journalists, Reporters without Borders Turkey representative Erol Önderoglu has called for an end to “politically motivated detentions” and the immediate release of the journalists.
