“We are united in common struggles for independence and sovereignty,” Natasha Hickman, Communications Director of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC), has said in support of the ‘Freedom for Öcalan, A Political Solution for Kurdistan’ campaign which launched on 10 October 2023. Speaking to Fırat News Agency (ANF) two weeks ago, Hickman emphasised the crucial role of international solidarity in addressing oppression and injustice, according to ANF’s report on Wednesday.
Hickman highlighted the shared values between the Cuban and Kurdish movements, particularly their mutual commitment to self-determination, justice, and equality. She noted that the resilience and perseverance of the Kurdish people in their quest for freedom deeply inspire the CSC.
Drawing parallels between the two struggles, Hickman said, “The Cuban struggle to defend their revolution for sovereignty and against external interference has long been a beacon of hope for oppressed people worldwide.” She stressed the need to forge strong bonds of solidarity across borders, especially in resisting imperialism and building societies rooted in equality and dignity.
“Our collective efforts are intertwined,” Hickman continued. “We must amplify each other’s voices and stand shoulder to shoulder in our fight for a better world.” The CSC’s message of solidarity extends to the Kurdish Assembly, with Hickman concluding, “Together we will continue to strive for a future where all peoples live in freedom and peace, with their rights and dignity fully respected. Freedom for Öcalan”.
The CSC’s support for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish cause reflects a wider global solidarity movement, with prominent figures, including Nobel Laureates, joining the call for his freedom and justice for the Kurdish people.
