The Ministry of Health in Turkey has announced 1,596 new cases of coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours. The total number of recorded cases in the country has reached 273,301.
Nine hundred and forty seven patients were said to have recovered on 2 September. The total number of reported ‘recoveries’ was recorded as 246,876.
Forty-five patients died on the same day. In total, 6,462 people were reported to have died with coronavirus in Turkey.
The Health Minister said that the capital, Ankara, reported the highest number of coronavirus cases in Turkey. Reportedly, coronavirus cases in Ankara are two times higher than in Istanbul.
The situation of health workers has reached crisis-point in the country.
The number of health workers who have reportedly been infected by the coronavirus stands at 29,865. Fifty two health workers have died from it, announced the Ministry of Health. An increasing number of health workers are resigning from their positions.
Thirteen health workers lost their lives due to the coronavirus in the last eight days alone, announced the Turkish Medical Association (TTB). It released a statement, adding: ‘We are dying’.
Due to the rise in the number of fatalities from coronavirus, Turkey has imposed new restrictions across the country. All wedding and traditional celebrations and ceremonies are to be restricted as of 4 September.
“Turkey is witnessing the second peak of the pandemic, as single-day deaths have risen to over forty over the past three days. This represents a steep increase”, noted Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca, on 2 September.
