Commanders from security forces of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria leading security operation in al Hol camp talked to Medya Haber TV and called on governments around the world to take responsbility in the fight against ISIS.
”There is a great danger and this danger does not only target the al-Hol residents or the residents of the North and East Syria, but the entire world,” said Evinar Derik, the commander of the Jazira Region Military Council, who took part in the operation.
“A short time ago, an operation was also carried out in Deir ez-Zor where ISIS gangs were also committing crimes and
murders. They were targeting women and people serving this community. In other words, they acted with the mentality of ‘anyone who does not accept their beliefs should be killed’. In the last 3 months, approximately 45 people were killed there with brutal methods such as burning people alive,” Derik said.
Commander Derik stressed that the operations have been successfull in term of eliminating ISIS physically, but eliminating ISIS mentality is harder and this needs a wider cooperation.
‘Residents of the camp see us as the only force to protect them’
The commander of the Anti-Terror Units joining the “Humanity and Security Operation” in al-Hol camp shared the information that ISIS cells have been organising secretly “in the underground of the camp” and have been terrifiying people for a long time now.
“Residents of the camp see us, the internal security forces and Asayish in North and East Syria as the only force that can protect them against ISIS. The attitude of the residents of the camp towards our forces in the operation has been quite positive,” the Commander said and added, “Our operation will continue until we eliminate all those ISIS sleeper cells in the camps and as long as new situations emerge risking the security of the camp. On the second day of the operation we have been able to catch and arrest many names in our list. We have also found a large amount of materials at their homes.”
YPG Spokesperson: Governments around the world should share this responsibility
Nuri Mehmûd, The People’s Protection Units (YPG) spokesperson pointed out that the danger in the camp has become more evident recently.
“We are still at the beginning of the operation. We have not obtained the desired outcome. This is such a major responsibility that our forces and the Autonomous Adminstration take. All the responsibility is left to the people of North and East Syria,” he said.
The YPG Spokesperson called on the the international forces to act more responsibly in the fight against ISIS. “All governmets around the world should share this responsibility and not leave everything on our shoulders,” he said.
