A child fell victim to heavy gunfire by Turkish-backed Syrian rebel groups on Sunday in Afrin (Efrîn), northern Syria, while several individuals, including women, were left injured, ANHA news agency reported.
The incident happened as Turkish-backed mercenaries indiscriminately fired live ammunition to celebrate after preliminary results showed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan winning the second round of Turkey’s presidential elections.
The reports further affirm that stray bullets found their way into homes and tents, generating a climate of terror and panic among the local populace.
Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch with Syrian rebel factions and took control of Kurdish-populated Afrin in 2018.
