A Catalan parliamentary delegation chaired by the MP Ruben Wagensberg visited the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Qamishlo on Saturday.
The delegation discussed recent developments in North and East Syria and Turkish attacks against the region with Foreign Affairs Commissioner Bedran Çiya Kurd and other representatives of the AANES.
“We came here to show our solidarity with the peoples of the region and the AANES,” said Wagensberg during the meeting.
“We see that the aggression of the Turkish state against the Autonomous Administration and the population in the region is completely unfounded and unjustified,” the politician stressed. He hoped that the message would reach the West, and that finally there might be some political consequences.
Bedran Çiya Kurd said he welcomed the visit as a “valuable gesture”, gave a basic overview of the extent of the attacks by the Turkish state in AANES to date and assured support and accompaniment when the Catalan MPs spoke about visiting the bombed areas.
The Catalonian Parliament announced in October 2021that it officially recognised the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.
