After racist Turkish groups launched a violent attack on Kurdish families in Leuven, Belgium on Sunday, the Congress of Kurdish Democratic Societies in Europe (KCDK-E) has called on the Kurdish community to unite in protest against what it calls the fascist attacks of the Turkish government.
The rally will take place at noon on Monday in front of the European Parliament.
The KCDK-E’s announcement comes at a time when, according to their statement, the spirit of resistance ignited during the Newroz celebrations has turned into a significant popular resistance movement in Europe, reflecting enthusiasm and national unity among Kurds.
The statement strongly criticised the Belgian police and government for alleged inaction and complicity in the face of attacks against the Kurdish community, allegedly organised by fascist groups with links to the Turkish state, amid growing narrative promising violence against Kurds.
The KCDK-E also accused the Turkish government and president of supporting terror, claiming that the terrorists responsible for a recent massacre in Moscow had links to Turkey. It described the racist attacks in Belgium as premeditated and accused the Turkish government of trying to provoke the Kurdish community in Europe into confrontation, citing incidents of violence and arson against the homes of Kurdish families as part of a wider strategy to incite street violence.
The organisation calls on the Kurdish diaspora to maintain its self-determination and organisation and urges unity against fascist attacks and provocations. The statement concludes with a call to action, inviting the Kurdish community and its supporters to join a significant demonstration in front of the European Parliament in protest.
