Activists from the Dest-Dan Women’s Council and Nav-Berlin took to the Christmas market at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin on Friday to draw attention to the international campaign for the release of Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question. The initiative aims to shed light on the prolonged and incommunicado detention of Öcalan, as well as the appalling conditions faced by tens of thousands of political prisoners in Turkey.
Equipped with leaflets and postcards, the activists engaged with visitors to the popular Christmas market, spreading information about Öcalan’s situation and the wider plight of the Kurds. The campaign aims to end the severe isolation that Öcalan has endured for 25 years and to build support for a political solution to the Kurdish question.
The festive atmosphere of Potsdamer Platz provided a unique backdrop for activists to connect with the public, encourage discussion and raise awareness of the cause.
The action continued on Saturday at the Charlottenburg Palace and will move on to Alexanderplatz on Sunday.
Meanwhile, as part of the same campaign, activists in Mannheim drew attention to Öcalan’s solitary confinement. They provided crucial information about the harsh conditions faced by tens of thousands of political prisoners in Turkey, adding a broader perspective to the narrative surrounding Öcalan’s case.
