The HDP has announced on social media that Ayhan Bilgen and other HDP members in custody may have been poisoned.
The HDP made the announcement on 27 September, after Bilgen claimed to be among those poisoned during an evening meal in the police office. He also claimed that they were not taken immediately to hospital for treatment.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Kars Municipality co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen had been taken into custody as part of the operation against the ‘Kobanî protests’ of 2014.
According to the HDP’s statement, they could not find any information on their members’ state of health. They added that Bilgen was not allowed to meet with his lawyers.
Some HDP members went to Ankara Provincial Security Directorate seeking information on the incident.
Later, HDP deputy co-chair Ümit Dede said that Bilgen had an infection in his blood, and that after being given a serum Bilgen was taken to the security office. The other two HDP politicians, Can Memiş and İsmail Şengün, are still in hospital.
Dede said that Bilgen’s health stabilised after taking the medicine. Ayla Akat Ata was also among those who fell ill, but she did not need to be taken to the hospital.
