The Australian Socialists Alliance said Australia should ban all arms trade and military cooperation with Turkey and call upon its allies and other governments to do the same.
The socialist group released a public statement, on 24 November, entitled, “Australia must condemn Turkey, Iran dictatorships’ war against Kurds” regarding the recent Turkish attacks on north and east Syria where various ethnicities co-exist.
“More than 100,000 people have been forced to flee their homes as schools, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure has been targeted,” said the Australian socialists, adding that these are war crimes.
Among other sanction requests, the group asked Australia to offer immediate emergency humanitarian support to the AANES and offer people fleeing from this war full protection and permanent resettlement.
“Australia should immediately condemn this brutal aggression with the same force as it condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” said the socialists.
Australian Socialists also called on the Australian government to condemn the genocidal attack in Mahabad, a Kurdish city in Iran where state forces killed many protesters, and to offer permanent resettlement to the many refugees from Iran that have sought protection.
Turkey accuses the People’s Protection Units (YPG), Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) of the Istanbul bomb attack which killed six people on 13 November, without any investigation.
Although Kurdish parties and organisations released various statements denying the allegations, the Turkish state has been attacking north and east Syria since 19 November.
