The Arab League, during a virtual meeting of foreign ministers on Wednesday, strongly condemned the Iranian missile attack on Erbil (Hewlêr) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and voiced its full support for Iraq’s sovereignty.
The League vehemently condemned Iran for the Erbil attack, holding it responsible for the consequences and and considering it a threat to regional peace and security. The League reaffirmed Iraq’s territorial integrity and sovereignty against any external aggression or violation, asserting Iraq’s right as a founding member of the Arab League and a United Nations member to resort to all diplomatic and legal means under international law to respond to these violations.
The attack near Erbil International Airport on Monday evening was claimed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, stating they targeted “spy headquarters and gatherings of armed groups in Erbil.” The bombardment resulted in four civilian deaths and six injuries, as reported by the authorities in KRI.
