Rojava University has signed an agreement with Washington State University to advance as a partnership in the fields of science, culture and health studies. The agreement, which has been made thanks to the efforts of the Washington-based Kurdistan Organisation (KAID), aims to improve education and scientific studies in Rojava University.
Rojava University Foreign Relations Office Manager Gulistan Sîdo spoke to Hawar News about the deal and Rojava University’s future goals.
“The meeting was held between the KAID, Rojava University Faculty of Health Administration, and the Washington State University Faculty of Fine Arts”, said Sîdo. “We made the deal online on 24 January with a formal meeting between these three parties. At the same time, an agreement was made for master and doctorate programs”.
Sîdo mentioned that they will also organise workshops together, which will be financed by Washington State University.
‘Five-year agreement signed’
Gulistan Sîdo said a five-year agreement was signed between the parties and they can renew the agreement in future if they want to. Sîdo also added that an exchange programme between the universities will be arranged as part of the agreement.
“We prepared a draft of a study to be presented to Washington State University. It is about the preservation of culture, language, and the history of Rojava [North and East Syria]. If the study is approved, the study groups will work together and their results will be published”.
The project will also be sponsored by the Foreign Ministry of the United States. “The deal opens the way for the official acceptance of Rojava University by the international community”, said Sîdo.
Since its establishment Rojava University has signed various agreements with other universities throughout the world, including the Emden/Leer University of Germany, Parma University in Italy, the University of California in the United States, and the Centre of Protection of Kurdistan Culture in Sulaymaniyah.
