On the 14th day of the ‘Great Freedom March’, politicians and representatives of democratic mass organisations arrived in the center of Şanlıurfa (Riha), marking a significant milestone in their ongoing journey.
The march, characterised by its resolute demand for the freedom of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Leader Abdullah Öcalan and a democratic resolution to the Kurdish question, has garnered attention both locally and internationally.
“We are the patriots of a country that no one could even say its name,” was the banner of the march on Wednesday.
From its inception, the march has been a unified call for peace and justice, with participants emphasizing the need for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question. By reaching Şanlıurfa, they have taken a crucial step in amplifying their message and garnering support from a broader spectrum of society.
The determination and solidarity of the activists remain unwavering as they navigate through increasing social pressure and political tensions surrounding the Kurdish issue.
In a statement made in front of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) district building, MP Öznur Bartın reiterated the demands of the marchers.
“We condemn the international conspiracy from here. Our demand is the freedom of Mr Abdullah Öcalan, the only interlocutor for a democratic solution of the Kurdish question,” Bartın added.
The statement was met with enthusiastic support from the crowd, with chants of “Azadiya Rêberê me azadiya me ye” (“The freedom of our leader is our freedom”) echoing through the streets.
The marchers’ journey signifies more than a symbolic act; it represents a collective effort towards tangible and lasting change.
