AANES, YPJ, YPG and PYD issue statements on the anniversary of Kobane’s liberation

1:20 am 01/02/2021

The sixth anniversary of Kobane’s liberation was celebrated by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES, also known as Rojava), the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) and the Democratic Union Party (PYD) of Syria.

AANES issued an official statement in order to commemorate and celebrate the sixth year of victory of the people of Kobane in their fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, also known as the Islamic State, or Daesh). AANES, which takes on administrative and executive functions, is the de facto autonomous multi-ethnic region in northern and eastern Syria which consists of self-governing sub-regions. Its political counterpart is the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), a political assembly representing political parties and organizations in North and East Syria. The SDC creates the political framework for the governance of Syria along a decentralized, federal model and its unified military force is the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

“The Kobane resistance constituted the beginning of a new era which led to the massive defeat of ISIS”, stated AANES. The liberation of Kobane on 27 January has become the ground from which the project of a Democratic Syria rises.

YPJ: ‘We celebrate the liberation of Kobane’

The YPJ also issued a statement: “We celebrate the liberation of Kobane. This is a celebration and greeting for all the world on behalf of the leader Abdullah Öcalan, the martrys who resisted with great sacrifice, the families of the martrys and the Kurdish people”.

YPG: ‘Kobane’s resistance has raised hopes for all the peoples in the region’

In its statement marking the anniversary of Kobane’s liberation, the YPG stated that Kobane’s resistance has raised hopes for all the peoples in the region and the people of Kobane put forward a unique resistance with the YPG’s forces.

“This victory has been gifted to the peoples of the world, thanks to the unique heroism of the peoples of Kurdistan and the support of the internationalist revolutionaries”, it stated.

PYD: ‘We will strengthen and continue our resistance’

The PYD issued a press statement in the Martry Dicle Martrys Graveside in Kobane. “We will strengthen and continue our resistance. We will never take a step back in order to liberate every inch of the Syrian territories”, said Ehmed Şexo, reading the statement of the PYD. Şexo also protested against the international silence regarding the ongoing offensives that are taking place in the region.
