The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has welcomed Syria’s re-admission to the Arab League and has expressed its readiness to play a role in finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis, which has entered its 13th year.
The AANES noted the importance of the decision taken by the Arab League Foreign Ministers on 7 May, which allows Syria to return to the League, in a written statement on Thursday.
Hoping that this decision will be an important step towards finding a political solution to the crisis, the AANES said, “We can play a positive role in the political solution. We have political, economic, security and humanitarian opportunities.” They called on the Arab League to engage with all Syrians, adding “We are ready to work with the Syrian government, Syrian forces, and Arab countries that believe in a political-democratic solution.”
The statement emphasised that the inclusion of Syria in the Arab League should not be an obstacle to finding a political solution to the crisis. “The return of Syria to the Arab League is a positive step towards the resolution of the Syrian crisis,” the AANES said. “We hope that this will open the door to dialogue and political negotiations, which will lead to a political solution and end the crisis that has lasted for years.”
The AANES also called on the Arab League and the UN to play a constructive role in finding a solution to the Syrian crisis and to take into account the views of the Syrian people.
“We hope for an end to the suffering of the Syrian people over the past years,” the AANES said. “We will strive with all our strength for security and a political solution so that Syrians can live in dignity with all their ethnicities.”
