On the 4th anniversary of the death of British Kurdish film maker Mehmet Aksoy (32) in Raqqa on 26th September 2017 a short memorial documentary has been made by his friend and colleague Erem Kansoy who also covered the conflict between ISIS and the Kurdish led forces of the SDF as a journalist in 2017.
Mehmet woke early on the morning of the 26th September 2017 and at around 6am, while preparing for his days work came face to face with a small convoy of cars that he thought belonged to the YPG. In fact it was a unit of ISIS who had dressed up as YPG fighters to infiltrate behind the SDF lines that had them trapped and encircled.
Mehmet was struck by bullets fired by the ISIS fighters and fell.
The video, which can be reached via this link, hears from some of his close friends and sister about what Mehmet Aksoy meant and still means to them.
