Duri Kaygusuz is a 61-year-old Kurdish woman and a peace-mother who was imprisoned on 14 November 2019 on allegations of being a ‘member of an organisation and making propaganda for an organisation’.
She suffers from severe heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
Her family spoke to the Mesopotamia News Agency and demanded that she is released immediately.
Her husband Halil Kaygusuz stated that Duri Kaygusuz was also detained in the past for organising a ceremony for their son, who was a Kurdish guerilla fighter who lost his life during the conflict between the Turkish army and the PKK.
“My wife has been imprisoned for more than one and half years for no reason. Whereever she went, she talked about peace and justice. Neither her nor any of us was pressurised for something different.” he said.
Duri Kaygusız’s sister Sakine Beçet visited her sister last week,” all very sick prisoners should be released”, she says about her observations and continues
“I went to Batman prison last week. Three people are staying in one cell. They were mistreated. There is no place for this injustice in any law or book. My sister did not leave her children. She did everything for her children. Everything mothers do is for their children. She has suffered a lot and she does not want anyone to feel the same pain.”
Her son Ahmet Kaygusuz points out that his mother’s only crime is demanding justice. “My mother is a peace-mother. That is why she demanded peace and she has committed no other crime.” he said.
