“The agreement between the Syrian president [Ahmed al-Sharaa] and the Commander [Mazloum Abdi] of the [Kurdish-led] Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is a proper roadmap for the future and a correct transitional step,” Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) President Nechirvan Barzani said on Tuesday, welcoming the deal aimed at addressing Syria’s ongoing crisis.
Barzani emphasised that the Syrian people’s positive response to the agreement reflects their broader desire for “stability and peaceful solutions away from violence”. His statement comes amid ongoing uncertainty in Syria, where the fate of various political and military actors remains a subject of international concern.
While expressing support for the deal, Barzani reiterated the KRI’s full commitment to Syria’s security and stability. “We affirm the necessity of protecting the rights of all components of the Syrian people and ensuring their active participation in building a free and prosperous Syria,” he stated.
As political dynamics shift in the region, Barzani’s remarks highlight the KRI’s interest in fostering a peaceful resolution that ensures minority rights and political inclusion in Syria’s future governance.
