Azadî Platform is organising a music concert in Barcelona, the capital of the autonomous Catalonia region in Spain, to support the self-determination of Kurdish people and the freedom of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and all other Kurdish political prisoners.
The event, Temps d’Esperança (Time of Hope), which aims to call on the Catalan world for solidarity with Kurdistan, will take place on 28 January in La Farga d’Hospitalet event centre in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the second largest city in Catalonia, located in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area.
Among the artists who will take the stage at the event are Clara Peya, Las Bajas Pasiones, Mabel Flores, Ebri Knight, Lil Rússia and Adala, as well as the Turkish-born Kurdish folk singer Diyar Dersim.
“Kurdish people’s struggle to build a democratic society based on the liberation of women, environmentalism and direct democracy, has led to great repression. The Kurdish people want to be recognized as worthy of human rights and freedom” the event’s organiser Azadî Platform said, adding that the event will help the Kurdish people’s story “not only to be told but to be seen and heard around the world.”
As a “call to continue weaving a network between the towns in resistance”, the concert’s profits will go towards cooperation and solidarity with Kurdistan from Catalonia.
Spain’s Catalonia region is one of the primary centres for support to the Kurdish freedom movement, as the Catalan Parliament is the only governmental assembly in the world to officially recognise the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) as of today.
Recently, an initiative aiming to bring global solidarity and awareness to the Kurdish freedom struggle announced a campaign named after the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi!’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) movement, to raise funds by selling non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
