The Turkish defence ministry on April 23 announced that Turkish armed forces had launched a ground-and-air campaign against numerous targets along a mountain range in neighbouring Iraqi Kurdistan.
Avashin, Zap and Metina regions of the Qandil Mountains, known as the Medya Defence Zones have been staging clashes between the Turkish armed forces and the Kurdish fighters of the People’s Defence Forces (HPG) and Free Women’s Units (YJA-STAR) since then.
Demonstrations have been held by thousands of Syrian Kurds in Tell Tamer, Tırbespiye, Hasakah, Serakaniye and various towns in Qamishli.
The Revolutionary Youth Movement and Young Women’s Union activists completed their long march in Derik, a town in Al-Hasakah and expressed their support for the Kurdish fighters.
