Kurdish politican Mehmet Emin Pencewini shared his evaluations on the foreign policy of Turkey concerning the Middle East and Turkey’s plans on Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.
Kurdish politician Mehmet Emin Pencewini, who acted as an intermediary to establish peace talks between the Turkish state and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) between 2010 and 2012, told Fırat News Agency that Turkey mobilises all its power to destroy the Kurdish freedom movement.
“Turkey dreams of Ottoman borders”
“Turkey wants to invade the region from Aleppo to Mosul within the part of a renewed National pact (known as Misak-ı Millî decisions taken by the Ottoman Parliament on 28 January 1920). Turkey makes the calculation that it would only be possible for it to realize its Ottoman dreams with the historical Misak-ı Milli borders if it invades the areas in South Kurdistan, which have the oil and natural gas reservoirs,” said Pencewini.
“Turkish authorities know that their economy is on the edge of collapse. Therefore they dream of the Ottoman borders and to invade the zones of oil and natural gas reservoirs.”
Military shipment in Duhok
Pencewini also claimed that Turkey sent a massive military shipment to Duhok a couple of weeks ago. “On the one hand Turkey wants to destroy Yazidi forces, and on the other hand it sends military shipment in the regions around Sinjar to support the current military forces in the South Kurdistan. It aims at establishing a miitary base nearby Sinjar, just like the bases in the towns of Bashika and Duhok.”
“PKK challenges and stops these political dilemmas to spread”
“The central government in Iraq has come to a point that it almost makes fun of the Kurds, by never consulting them for their opinion nor taking their existence even into consideration. The most important point here is this: the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) challenges and stops these political dilemmas in South Kurdistan spreading over into the North Kurdistan and Rojava,” Pencewini said.
“Therefore the invading powers, starting with (Turkish president Recep Tayyip) Erdoğan, wants to break the impact of the PKK over the region and annihilate the PKK.”
“States in conflict take the same side against Kurds”
The policies imposed upon the Kurds living in the East, West and North Kurdistan are strengthened by the lack of unity among Kurds themselves, especially the lack of unity among the political forces of South Kurdistan, according to Pencewini.
He noted that the attacks of Turkey against Kurds disregards the regional and international agreements. “Kurdish political powers should unite in the region and must give a joint voice to Europe, NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation), the United States and the United Nations. This is also the demand of the Kurdish people. The states, which seem to be taking opposite sides in many different conflicts, take the same side when it comes to the Kurdish people. Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria comes together when it comes to the territories of Kurdistan,” he said.
