Kurdish artist Tara Mamedova has claimed that a Kazakh group attacked a Kurdish village in the Dergachi district of Saratova, Russia.
Regarding the attack on the village where Mamedova’s family lives, she said, “Yesterday evening Kazakhs were teasing a Kurdish youth. The boy responded to the bullies. About a thousand people gathered and got undressed and started attacking the Kurdish village”.
Mamedova reacted to the incident on social media: “A few months ago Kazakhs attacked Kurds in Kazakhstan. Yesterday Kazakhs attacked Kurds in Saratova, Russia, in the district where my family live”. She went on to trace the historical parallels. “Every day they are looking for an excuse. I remembered the year 1993 when the Kyrgyz attacked and displaced us. Despite this, nobody knows about them”.
”There is a problem in Kazakhstan, whatever the cause is, and Kazakhs are attacking Kurds”, said Mamedova. ”The only positive aspect is that the state (Russia) does not allow this. The state is trying to distribute the gatherings because it’s not Kazakhstan. It is Russia, but it is on the border with Kazakhstan. The Kurds are contantly harassed. Some have been injured. The state closed the village borders. The state stopped them. Kurdish villages are united because the Kurdish population is too high there”.
