Some 22 US service personnel were injured in northeast Syria as a result of a helicopter fault, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Tuesday.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, caused varying degrees of injuries to the troops, who are now receiving treatment. Ten of the injured have been evacuated to higher care facilities outside the region.
The CENTCOM, responsible for overseeing US military operations against Islamic State (ISIS) in the region, clarified that the helicopter was not targeted by enemy fire.
CENTCOM’s statement highlighted that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the helicopter fault. Details regarding the specific nature of the incident or the type of helicopter involved have not been disclosed.
