More than a hundred Syrian organisations issued a collective plea on Thursday for international intervention to mitigate the hardships faced by communities in North and East Syria due to the Turkish attacks, as reported by North Press.
This appeal comes in the wake of extensive Turkish shelling that has ravaged cities and towns across these regions, inflicting significant damage on infrastructure and civilian assets, and leading to numerous injuries.
The groups emphasised the urgent need for a concerted effort to restore essential services and foster long-term recovery and stability in the area.
The bombardment by Turkey in mid-January, particularly targeting zones under the control of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES), has precipitated a dire humanitarian crisis. Vital services such as the gas, water and electricity supply have been severely disrupted, affecting key sectors including health, education, and security.
The 109 signatories of the statement asserted that the scale of the crisis surpasses their capacity for response and underscores the imperative for global collaboration to deliver immediate relief and sustainable solutions. They also called for international human rights bodies to actively engage in addressing the situation, including monitoring rights abuses and advocating for the protection of civilians.
