Avin Suwaid, co-chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), marked one year since the launch of their initiative aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis on Thursday. In an interview with ANHA agency, she revealed that recent discussions with the Damascus government failed to achieve the necessary maturity to address the Syrian people’s aspirations.
Avin Suwaid explained that while some local and regional forces have responded positively to the nine-point initiative introduced on 18 April 2023, the meetings with Damascus and several Arab countries have yet to yield the desired outcomes. “The efforts made to engage the Damascus government and unify opposition forces under a common banner have not led to substantial progress,” she stated.
Further discussing the initiative, Suwaid criticised the Damascus government’s response to the proposals, which aim to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of Syria’s national wealth and prepare for the dignified return of refugees. “Our administration is ready to negotiate with Damascus to end foreign occupation and restore every Syrian’s dignity,” she added, underlining the shared discomfort of Turkish military occupation and emphasising the need for all Syrian parties to come together to find a genuine solution to the crisis.
The Democratic Autonomous Administration continues to push for a decentralised, democratic Syria, urging all stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue to achieve peace and stability in the region, Suwaid assured.
