Turkish military forces have advanced into villages in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), harassing local residents and driving people from their homes in the border areas, RojNews reported on Saturday.
According to the report, Turkish forces entered the village of Dargali (Dergel) in the Kani Masi (Kanî Masî) area of Dohuk Governorate on Friday night, threatening the villagers and ordering them to evacuate their homes within 24 hours.
Regional sources told RojNews that the Turkish forces, allegedly with support from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), are attempting to fully occupy the borders between Turkey and the KRI. Soldiers are reportedly searching through the’ vineyards and orchards of the villagers, causing distress among residents.
The report cites the US-based Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), who say that over the past 10 days Turkish forces have moved more than 300 armoured vehicles, tanks and military vehicles into the Kurdistan Region.
This development follows earlier actions by Turkish forces in Amedi (Amêdî) and Metina (Metîna), where they established checkpoints, collected residents’ ID documents and forcibly evacuated several border villages. The military presence has raised concerns about further displacement and the sovereignty of the region.
