Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council member, Mustafa Karasu, has spoken about the 1980 coup d’état, the Turkish state’s attacks and the attitude of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Karasu stated that it is apparent that the KDP supports Turkey.
Karasu observed that if one is to understand the current ruling government’s strategies and policies, one must be aware of the policies and practices applied by those who engineered the 12 September 1980 coup d’état. The Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) alliance applies the same methods as that 1980 military regime.
Karasu added that Turkish state includes political Islam within its structure to act against the Kurdish freedom movement.
Karasu addressed the issue of the prison isolation conditions of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, based in İmralı Prison. He emphasised that it is time to now struggle for Öcalan’s freedom, rather than just easing his prison isolation conditions.
He also stated that the United States (US) aims to prevent the spread and the influence of Öcalan’s ideas across the Middle East. At the same time, it courts ‘collaborationist Kurds’ in the region.
In his speech, Karasu stated that the main reason for US support to Turkey over its attacks against the PKK and its support for ‘collaborationist Kurds’ during the ‘Third World War’ was to weaken the ‘free Kurdish people’ and to prevent the influence of ‘free Kurdish people’ across the Middle East.
Karasu also noted that the democratization of the Middle East also depends on the democratization of Turkey.
Turkey, he observed, has relationships with all the conservative powers in the region and Turkey has sought to prevent democratization of the Middle East by attacking Syria and Iraq as well.
The reason for attacking these places, he emphasised, is that if these places get democratized, Turkey will lose its power in the region. Turkey therefore intervenes in all these regions.
Karasu also remarked upon the KDP’s attitude regarding Turkey’s attacks against northern Iraq (southern Kurdistan). He stated that the KDP is making a significant mistake if it believes the PKK can be eliminated and it can replace it in the region.
He also noted that the KDP supports Turkey’s plans against the PKK in the region. He emphasised that all Kurdish people should take note of this fact.
Lastly, he called upon the Yazidis in Sinjar to defend their autonomy against the plans of Turkey, the KDP and Iraq.
