The European Union has denounced the Organisation of Turkic States’ (OTS) repeated attempts to legitimise the unrecognised Turkish Cypriot entity by granting it observer status at their summit in Bishkek.
High Representative Josep Borrell issued a statement on 7 November opposing the Organisation of Turkic States’ actions regarding the self-declared ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ at the summit in the Kyrgyz Republic.
“These attempts are regrettable and contradict the strong support of several members of the Organisation to the principle of territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter,” Borrell stated.
The EU emphasised its position recognising only the Republic of Cyprus as a subject of international law, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions.
