📍Turkey’s engagement with the Assad regime is motivated by national security concerns and the repatriation of refugees, not by an intent to normalise relations, according to Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
📍Meanwhile, forces backed by Assad continue to launch attacks on territory in Deir ez-Zor protected by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
📍In Iraq, members of the Yazidi minority have been returning home from camps run by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, following heightened rhetoric and hostility targeting their community.
📍And the KDP are also on the back foot in Kirkuk, after a governor from the rival Patriotic Union of Kurdistan was elected, in a move seen as countering Turkish influence.
