Turkish artillery targeted civilian homes in Kobani (Kobane), northern Syria, on Wednesday, underlining persistent ceasefire violations.
The village of Dikmadash in Kobani’s western countryside experienced indiscriminate shelling, causing material damage but no casualties. Additionally, a Turkish drone strike targeted a civilian vehicle in central Kobani, which was criticised by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria for endangering civilians.
This military action in Kobani spotlights the fragile state of peace agreements in the region. Despite a 2019 ceasefire aiming to de-escalate conflict by requiring the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) withdrawal from the border, Turkish assaults persist, challenging the ceasefire’s integrity and jeopardising northeastern Syria’s stability despite global peace efforts.
