An Israeli missile strike on Saturday in the Mezze neighbourhood of Damascus, Syria, resulted in the deaths of six individuals. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that among the casualties were three leaders of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a civilian of Syrian nationality, and two others whose identities remain unknown.
The targeted four-storey building, known for hosting meetings of leaders affiliated with the IRGC and pro-Iran Palestinian groups, was completely destroyed. This neighbourhood is recognised for its high-security presence.
The impact of the strike was felt widely, with reports from Al-Mowasat Hospital in Damascus indicating that one body and three injured individuals, including a woman, were admitted following the attack. These developments were confirmed by the hospital’s President, Essam Al-Amin, to local media outlet Al-Watan Online.
According to a security source within the “Syria-aligned alliance” speaking to Reuters, the building was frequently used by Iranian advisors supporting the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s government. Mehr, an Iranian news agency, also reported that two senior Iranian military advisors were among those killed in the strike. As of yet, there has been no official statement from Israel regarding the attack.
