A 20-year-old man died on Friday from severe injuries sustained when Turkish border guards brutally beat him while trying to cross the border in northern Hasakah (Hesekê), the Syrian Kurdish news agency ANHA reported.
Internal security forces (Asayish) found the body of the victim, identified as Masoud Hamo Naso from the town of Ras al-Ayn (Serê Kaniyê), in a village near Derbasiyah.
Naso had been with his brother, cousin and three other relatives during an attempt to cross the border into Turkish territory. The fate of the other family members remains unknown.
Naso’s body was brought to the hospital on Friday evening and had been severely beaten, especially his head, which lead to his death, an employee of the hospital in the region told the North Press Agency. A medical examination of the body indicated that the fatal incident had taken place at least 24 hours prior to the arrival of the body at the hospital.
