Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Pervin Buldan has cast her vote in Van (Wan), expressing her hope for change and transformation in the country, while Green Left Party co-spokespersons Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and İbrahim Akın cast their votes respectively in Istanbul and İzmir, hoping for a democratic republic and solutions to Turkey’s long-lasting problems.
Buldan said Turkey has been experiencing great injustices and unlawfulness for too long, and that today’s elections could be the beginning of a new era. “We believe that change and transformation is inevitable. Eighty-two million people have hope in today’s elections,” she said. She further added that the current evil system needs to end today.
Meanwhile, Green Left Party Spokesperson Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar expressed her hope for a democratic republic. Uçar said that the party has pledged prosperity, fraternity and coexistence in a democratic country as a result of these elections. She expressed a wish for the elections to lead to a parliament that will put all Turkey’s persistent problems onto its agenda and produce solutions. She also expressed a desire for a constitution that will protect the rights and law of all peoples, beliefs and groups living in the country. She congratulated the Peace Mothers and Saturday Mothers for Mother’s Day, expressing a wish that their struggle for truth and peace will lead to victory in the new century.
