A delegation from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) met with Pierre Laurent, the Vice-President of the French Senate, in Paris on Saturday to discuss the general situation in Syria, according to a statement issued on the AANES official website.
The discussions covered possible political solutions, as well as the Turkish threats and aggression against the region, and the political, economic, humanitarian, and security challenges facing the Kurdish-led administration, which Turkey sees as a national security threat.
During the meeting, the northeast Syrian delegation highlighted the crimes committed against the Kurdish people on Newroz eve in the Jindires district of the northwestern Syrian town of Afrin, and the violations taking place in the areas in north Syria occupied by Turkey and Turkey-backed Syrian rebels, including the processes of demographic change.
Pierre Laurent expressed his support for the AANES and the development of cooperation to confront terrorism and find a peaceful and democratic solution to the war in Syria. He also extended his condolences to the victims of the 6 February earthquakes in Syria and the victims of the Newroz killings in Jindires.
This visit of the delegation to the French Senate followed a Newroz reception in Paris, attended by several high-profile French politicians, including Laurent, as a demonstration of support against the ongoing international persecution by the Turkish state towards Kurds.
