The office of the governor of the Kurdish-majority province of Şırnak (Şırnex) in southeast Turkey has announced that 12 regions in the province have been declared temporary military security zones.
Locations in five districts of the province, including Şırnak city centre, will remain as security zones for 15 days from 17 March, and civilians living in Şırnak will not be allowed to enter the security zones during that period, the governor’s office has said.
According to the statement issued, the areas have been declared military security zones “to ensure national security, to preserve the public order and security, to prevent crimes, to protect basic rights and freedoms and public safety, to prevent any acts of violence and as a precaution against any negative situation that may emerge”.
Şırnak province, in southeastern Turkey, shares a border with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
