The Islamic Republic of Iran on 31 October announced it will hold public trials in capital Tehran for 1,000 demonstrators who allegedly played a central role in the on-going mass protests in the country. The protesters will be charged with assaulting security guards, setting fire to public property and other charges, AP News reported.
Meanwhile, Iranian security forces have detained dozens of Kurdish demonstrators during protests in the provinces of Kurdistan, West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah and Ilam, according to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
The KHRN has confirmed the arrest of 57 civilians over the past five days in the cities of Ravansar, Qasr-e Shirin, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Mahabad, Bukan, Baneh, Saqqez, Abdanan, Oshnavieh, Orumiyeh and Dehgolan.
The KHRN also reported that Iranian military-security forces have killed three civilians, including a child, during public protests last week.
The nationwide protests were sparked on 16 September over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of Iranian morality police.
Almost 12,500 people have been arrested and nearly 250 killed since the start of the street protests according to the human rights watchdog. Many of those arrested are allowed either no or minimal contact with their families.
