The European Union is hypocritical in its adoption of the US-origin legal term state-sponsored terrorism, Irish MEP Clare Daly said in a speech at the European Parliament on Thursday.
“There is nothing constructive about the pot calling the kettle black,” Daly said.
The MEP gave some examples of how she defines state-sponsors of terrorism, “European sponsorship of Israeli terrorism in Palestine”, and “ISIS, the product of French, American, British, Turkish and Gulf sponsorship in Syria and Iraq”, among others she said.
There is nothing constructive about the pot calling the kettle black. If the EU is going to start naming "state sponsors of terrorism," let's do it… Let's recognise West-sponsored terrorism too, and make sure 🇺🇲🇬🇧🇫🇷🇪🇺 and their pals 🇮🇱🇹🇷🇸🇦 & the rest are all on the list. pic.twitter.com/KKXS2z12k1

In her speech, the Irish MEP highlighted the hypocrisy of talking about the sponsoring of state terrorism instead of seeking a peaceful resolution to current conflicts.
“State-sponsorship of terrorism is a term of US law. It doesn’t exist in EU law, but a Zelensky advisor called for it in the Parliament magazine. And here we are again reporting for duty. And all it will do is make peace harder to achieve,” said Daly
Daly accused Europe and the US of sponsoring state terrorism instead of seeking a peaceful resolution.
In regards to her comments about state-sponsorship of ISIS, although Turkey claims to oppose the Islamic State, Turkey has indeed repeatedly been accused of aiding ISIS, based on its long-standing desire to suppress Kurdish efforts for autonomy, reported Foreign Policy.
