The Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-Chair Salih Muslim drew attention to Turkey’s attacks on north and east Syria after the Tehran and Sochi meetings in a programme he participated in was aired on Rojava TV on Wednesday evening. Muslim argued that Turkish President Erdoğan had surrendered to Russian leader Putin during the Sochi meeting on 5 August, saying, “From now on, Erdoğan will not be able to keep a foot in both camps.”
However, suggesting that Erdoğan’s policy at the Sochi meeting was within the knowledge of NATO and the United States, Muslim said that NATO turned a blind eye to it up to a point but would stop Turkey if it went over a certain step.
Underlining that there was neither a Syrian party nor any Kurds at the Tehran meeting that was held between Turkey, Iran and Russia, Muslim said that the meeting was only for the interests of the three states. “Even so,” he added, “there is still confusion in the interests of those states. Everyone acts according to their own interests, and no common conclusion was made in the meeting.”
“The Turkish state plans to occupy Manbij, Til Rifet and Minix, and eliminate the Kurds in those regions,” said Muslim regarding Turkey’s new ground attack plans for north and east Syria.
In the face of Turkey’s call for dialogue, Muslim called on the Damascus government not to accept the agreement with Ankara. Noting that the Turkish government is responsible for the murder of half a million Syrians so far, Muslim said that the Syrian people who fought against ISIS are resisting Turkey’s attacks today. “Our struggle in north and east Syria forced the Turkish government to make concessions and go begging to the government of Damascus,” he added.
