Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan renewed his threats to further occupy parts of Syria in his address to the nation on Monday.
He said:
“Our operations for liberating our borders with Iraq from terrorist attacks continue with success. As soon as our preparations regarding the security corridor that we have begun establishing on our border with Syria is completed, we’ll launch new military campaigns there as well.”
Erdoğan has also renewed his threat that Turkey would veto Sweden and Finland’s accession to NATO as long as ‘hypocritical attitudes concerning terror groups’ did not change.
“Hopefully we will travel to Spain tomorrow to attend the NATO summit, and we’ll do whatever we must do for the rights and interests of our country,” he said.
“In particular, we will tell about the hypocrisies concerning terror organisations like PKK, YPG and FETÖ to the face of the concerned parties, with documents, information on facts and images. We will let them know that Turkey cannot be expected to change its stance as long as this situation remains unchanged.”
