The people of Keşan village of Heftanin region in Iraqi Kurdistan, which has been the target of Turkey’s attacks since Wednesday, came together in front of the Turkish National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) office in Duhok and tried to stage a protest against Turkey’s military actions.
The mass demonstration of the villagers was prevented by Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) forces. The villagers stated that Turkish forces are targeting civilians and it is not possible for them to leave their homes because of these attacks.
Speaking to NRT TV, one of the villagers in Keşan stated that some feel that it seems even worse for them than during the Saddam (Hussein) era. He stated that when they asked for permission from the authorities in the region to go to farm their land, they became the target of Turkish soldiers on several occasions.
”We applied to the administrators: we asked them to find a solution to this situation. We told the regional administrators to inform the MIT to let us at least be allowed to irrigate our trees and fields,” he said.
He claimed that the Turkish army cut all their trees and took them back to Turkey for sale.
”Turkey has been destroying Kurdistan for decades. They are taking away the gold of Kurdistan. They take our coal. They take all our trees with their trucks.”
