Free Women Square in Kobani, a Kurdish-Syrian town in North and East Syria, staged a unique anti-war protest held by mothers of those who have joined the Kurdish struggle for freedom.
Mothers organised the protest against the ongoing campaign launched on 23 April by Turkey mainly targeting Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) zones in the Zap, Metina and Avashin regions of northern Iraq.
Neime Eqil spoke during the protest and underlined that the mothers support the “resistance of the guerrilla”.
“As the mothers of the guerrilla, we stand by our children. We condemn the Turkish state. They are not able the make the guerrilla surrender despite their attacks with tanks, mortars and fighter jets,” she said. “Here is my call to all mothers of the guerrilla forces, wherever you are, do not stand silent. Stand up and look out for your children.”
She continued: “Europe and the international powers have turned blind and deaf regarding their [Turkish state] actions. We also condemn the state of Barzani. They paved the way for Turkey and they make them attack our children. We do not accept that.”
