Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Mithat Sancar evaluated recent developments in Turkey at the party’s group meeting, MA reports.
Poverty and unemployment are some of the most pressing issues on the agenda, Sancar said. ”The economic burden on people is huge. The first item the people’s agenda is the economic downfall. During the 17-day lockdown, we all went through a process in which people faced despair, hunger and misery. Society went through a precarious process in which people were dragged into social death and continue to live with it.”
Sancar shared his comments on the ongoing attacks in Palestine. “The history and the memory of Palestinians are destroyed step by step. Hereby I share my deep sympathies with the suffering of the Palestinians and I declare that we are in full solidarity with he people of Palestine, which is necessary to our internationalist perspective,” he said.
Sancar also shared his criticism regarding the recent statements of mafia leader Sedat Peker, whose recent video series shared on YouTube regarding his relations with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) officials, including the Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, triggered much debate in the country.
“The decay and corruption created by the government have lowered the country to the level of the mafia and other crime organisations. We remember the 90s, when thousands of victims were displaced and millions of Kurds had to leave their burned villages, as a result of the unethical state mentality. So what happened? Everywhere has turned into a crime scene,” Sancar said.
He added: “Smuggling, all kinds of smuggling, all kinds of mafia relations, have established their networks in this country. This is the fundamental problem. Those in power, who prefer to deny the Kurdish problem and support destruction as the only way, will corrupt both the society and the state.”
