Citizens of Kurdistan and their allies have sought information regarding the health of imprisoned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan, after claims casting doubt on his health were recently shared on social media.
Several international organisations made statements on the issue.
In addition, millions of people attending Newroz celebrations demanded freedom for Öcalan and strengthened the campaign.
The Turkish state allowed Öcalan to speak on the phone with his brother Mehmet Öcalan, but the phone call was interrupted during the conversation.
Cengiz Yürekli, one of Öcalan’s lawyers, commented on the issue, saying that the phone conversation, which was allowed after 11 months of silence, aimed to alleviate the public uproar.
