Mothers whose children joined the armed struggle to defend North and East Syria spoke to Hawar News Agency regarding their weekly protests and their support for their children.
Every Wednesday in various parts of NE Syria, Kurdish mothers of sons and daughters of those who have volunteered for the Kurdish freedom struggle in different parts of Kurdistan, come together to organise protests and meetings to give voice to the Kurdish people’s long fight for freedom.
The Kongreya Star women’s organisation formed a committee to organise various events that enable the mothers to come together and support each other.
Senaa Xelil, an Executive Member of the Qamishli Kongreya Star, has been working for this committee.
“We have recently organised a press statement to condemnd Turkey’s offensive throughout North and East Syria and the attacks in Sinjar (Shengal). We have also issued a statement to celebrate the victory of the Peoples’ Defence Forces (HPG) on Mount Gare and the Heftanîn resistance,” she said.
Cîhan Ismaîl said, “I am joining these Wednesday protests since I want to support the Kurdish Freedom Movement that my son joined more than a year ago and show that I am very proud of him.”
She called on the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) to stop acting like the enemy of Kurds. “You have to stop these politics of building alliances with the enemies of Kurds,” she said.
Besna Hecî Emîn’s son has been fighting in the mountains for 26 years. She has not seen her son all these years.
“The last time I have heard of him was 5 years ago and I am very proud of him,” she said.
Şewafe Elî’s five children joined the Kurdish freedom struggle.
“ One of my sons joined the guerilla when he was 18, the other 4 are fighting with the Syrian Democratic Forces for our lands,” said Eli.
“We will continue to resist and to establish the united Kurdistan and free our leader Abdullah Öcalan,” she said.
